Chair's Report
- Update on Violent Video Games
(In March, the Board approved Resolution 00-302 Recommending Elimination of Violent Video Games from Publicly Owned or Operated Facilities in King County). Prepared Statement of the Federal Trade Commission on "Marketing Violent Entertainment to Children: A Review of Self-Regulation and Industry Practices in the Motion Picture, Music Recording, and Electronic Game Industries" presented before the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, United States Senate, September 13, 2000.
- Panel Presentation on the Criminalization of Mental Health
(Boardmember Thompson proposed discussion for the Board to consider policy issues and education regarding permitting lowering the threshold for involuntary commitment of the mentally ill without compromising civil rights of the mentally ill). Joanne Asaba, Manager, King County Mental Health, Chemical Abuse and Dependency Services Division, will introduce the discussion and panelists: Dr. Sharon Farmer, Medical Director, King County Mental Health, Chemical Abuse and Dependency Services Division; Amnon Shoenfeld, Coordinator, Crisis and Commitment Services, King County Mental Health, Chemical Abuse and Dependency Services Division; and Eleanor Owen, President, Washington Advocates for the Mentally Ill.

Director of Health's Report
- Update on HIV Reporting Evaluation
(In July, 1999, the State Board of Health approved revisions to WAC 246-100, mandating reporting of asymptomatic HIV infection by providers and laboratories, with an implementation date of September 1, 1999). Dr. Christopher Spitters, Medical Director, Infectious Diseases and Reproductive Health, Washington State Department of Health, and Dr. Bob Wood, Director, HIV/AIDS Control Program, Public Health - Seattle & King County, will provide an update on the HIV surveillance program one year after it went into effect.
- Update on Infant Mortality Data Watch
(Kathy Carson, Health Services Administrator, Prevention Division, Public Health - Seattle & King County, and Christie Spice, Epidemiologist, Epidemiology, Planning, and Evaluation, Public Health - Seattle & King County, will provide an update on current infant mortality trends in King County and explore the disparities in infant death, as well as key risk factors for death, between African Americans and whites).
- Presentation of the 2001 Budget for Public Health - Seattle & King County
(Alonzo Plough, Director, and Kathy Uhlorn, Manager, Administrative Services, will present highlights of the 2001 budget, including allocation of King County and City of Seattle tax dollars).
