KING COUNTY, WA - The King County Board of Health will hold its next meeting on Friday, February 20, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the following location:

VIII. Briefing: Childhood Immunization Practices and Programs
Vaccines are one of the most successful tools we have available today to prevent disease and death, reducing the level of most vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 99 percent. Today's briefing by David Bibus, Communicable Disease Control, Epidemiology and Immunization Unit, will highlight trends in child immunization completion rates, profile under-immunized populations in King County and provide an overview of Public Health's Immunization Program. Briefing will include a presentation by Dr. Ed Marcuse, Children's Hospital.

IX. Briefing: Environmental Public Health
Environmental Health is an integral part of the public health infrastructure in King County. Environmental Health focuses on prevention of disease through proper sanitation, safe food, proper disposal of waste and toxics, and management of disease carrying pests. Dr. Ngozi Oleru, Environmental Health Division, will provide a definition of Environmental Public Health as well as an overview of Environmental Health's organizational structure, ten essential services, current issues and emerging issues.

The King County Board of Health sets county-wide public health policy, enacts and enforces local public health regulations, and carries out other duties of local boards of health specified in state law. These duties include enforcing state public health statutes, preventing and controlling the spread of infectious disease, abating nuisances, and establishing fee schedules for licenses, permits and other services.
