Briefing - Pandemic Flu
Steve Helgerson, MD, MPH, Division Manager, Prevention/ATOD; John Neff, MD, Children’s Orthopedic Hospital; Amy Bode, MD, Medical Epidemiologist in Communicable Disease, Epidemiology and Immunization; Michael Loehr, Public Health Preparedness Manager; and Eric Holdeman, Director, Office of Emergency Management, will review what pandemic influenza is, discuss the implications for King County, and update the Board on pandemic preparedness planning in the context of the current avian influenza crisis in Asia.

Briefing - Local Hazardous Waste Fees
Ken Armstrong, Administrator, Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County and Dr. Ngozi Oleru, Manager of the Environmental Health Services Division will present a proposal to increase fees that support Local Hazardous Waste Management Program activities. The Board will vote on the fee increases in May.

The King County Board of Health sets county-wide public health policy, enacts and enforces local public health regulations, and carries out other duties of local boards of health specified in state law. These duties include enforcing state public health statutes, preventing and controlling the spread of infectious disease, abating nuisances, and establishing fee schedules for licenses, permits and other services.
