Digital Library will put community and health professionals in touch with quality information
Monday, June 19, 2006

KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - Starting today, public health workers, community organizations, health consumers and researchers will have access to the Public Health Digital Library. This library, with quality and evidence-based public health information, guidelines and best practices resources, can be found at www.metrokc.gov/health/library.

“In King County we strive for effective programs that are founded on the best possible evidence base, and the Digital Library will be a valuable tool for our community and improving the public’s health,” said Dorothy Teeter, Interim Director and Health Officer for Public Health - Seattle & King County.

Some of the key features of the Public Health Digital Library include:

  • Article & publication search: Databases and search tools to locate health articles
  • Health statistics and data: Online tools for locating and using public health data and reports
  • Open access and full text eJournals: Links to journals that do not restrict access only to subscribers and instructions on finding full text articles
  • Evidence-based websites: Resources with a focus on evidenced-based public health
  • Grants & funding: Websites for the grant seeker and the grant writer
  • Topics A - Z: Annotated links to a wide range of high quality public health oriented websites
  • Guidelines & best practices: Practice recommendations and guidelines for the public health professional
  • Training opportunities: Resources on searching the Internet, evaluating websites, continuing education and training, keeping current, and knowledge management

The Digital Library initiative is the result of a partnership between Public Health - Seattle & King County and the University of Washington Health Sciences Libraries, funded by the Grace and Harold Sewell Memorial Fund.

Providing effective and innovative health and disease prevention services for over 1.8 million residents and visitors of King County, Public Health – Seattle & King County works for safer and healthier communities for everyone, every day.
