West Nile Virus
Case reports in Seattle, King County, WA state

Summary of 2006 WNV activity:

Seattle

3 birds infected with West Nile virus were reported in Seattle.  These birds died and were tested in the month of October 2006.  They were found in Magnolia (1), Broadview/Blueridge (1), and Laurelhurst (1).

King County

3 birds infected with West Nile virus were reported in King County outside of Seattle.  These birds died and were tested in the month of October.  They were found in the Somerset neighborhood of Bellevue (1) and in Kent (2). 

One King County horse was reported with West Nile virus.  The horse was from the Ravensdale/Maple Valley area and died of West Nile virus neurologic disease on October 8th

WA State

13 birds infected with West Nile virus were reported in Washington State during 2006.  Six of these birds were found in King County (see details above).  The other 7 birds were from the following counties:  Yakima (3), Snohomish (2), Island (1), and Cowlitz (1).   There were also 5 horses from Yakima County reported with West Nile virus illness and 3 human cases.  Two of the human cases were Pierce County residents and one was from Clark County.
