King County International Airport/Boeing Field marked eight decades of aviation history in July 2008.
King County International Airport celebrates 80 years
It’s been 80 years since William E. Boeing Jr. sat on his father’s lap during the 1928 dedication of Seattle’s first airport. On July 25, he returned to King County International Airport/Boeing Field and participated in festivities to celebrate the airport’s eight decades of aviation history. The airport hosted a ceremony with Mr. Boeing and King County officials to honor the Boeing family for their continued support of their hometown airport and the aviation industry.
On Saturday, July 26, the public joined the celebration with a day of fun for the whole family as the airport hosted an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event was packed with activities, including historic aircraft displays, visits to the Museum of Flight, [external site] scenic flights, and a plane pull hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound [external site]. Airport tenants showcased their businesses while visitors and guests shared in the memories.
