North Highline is an unincorporated urban area of approximately 32,000 bordered by Seattle, Burien, SeaTac and Tukwila. It includes the White Center and Boulevard Park communities, as well as, several other smaller neighborhoods.

Status updates

On October 3, 2007, the Growth Management Planning Council (GMPC) adopted a motion to show North Highline as an overlap or contested interim potential annexation area in the Countywide Planning Policies.  This recommendation must be adopted by the King County Council and ratified by a majority of the cities prior to becoming effective.  Under the Countywide Planning Policies, an area cannot be annexed unless it is in the potential annexation area of one city.  This means, the overlapping interim potential annexation area will need to be resolved prior to annexation.       

The Growth Management Planning Council is a formal body comprised of elected officials from jurisdictions throughout the county.  The GMPC works together to plan for economic and population growth in King County and to implement the Countywide Planning Policies, which were adopted by the GMPC and County Council, and ratified by the cities, in 1994.  For more information, view the GMPC webpage. .
