The management letter summarizes our follow-up on three recent audits conducted of the King County Sheriff's Office: the 2002 performance audit of the Communications Center, and the 2004 and 2005 performance audits of patrol operations, overtime management, strategic planning, the contract cost recovery model, and management of federal grants. Presented June 26, 2007.
King County Sheriff's Office Complaint Analysis
(2005) The management letter provides information on the nature and extent of complaints and employee misconduct in the King County Sheriff's Office. Issued October 30, 2006.
King County Sheriff's Office: Phase 2
(2005) The audit reviewed the
KCSO's operational master plan and followed up on implementation of our 2004
recommendations; evaluated the KCSO's contract cost models as applied to the
Metro Transit and King County International Airport contracts; and reviewed
the adequacy of federal grants management practices. Presented
September 27, 2005. King County Sheriff's Office (2004) The performance audit evaluated the Sheriff's Office's patrol staffing, overtime and cost recovery models to determine if they are appropriately designed and managed, and if opportunities exist for improvement or cost savings. Presented September 28, 2004.
Follow-up Review: 2002
Sheriff's Communications Center
(2004) The follow-up reviewed implementation of the audit’s recommendations regarding the need for improved workload monitoring, staffing needs analysis, and cost-recovery for contracted services. Presented February 10, 2004.
King County Sheriff's
Communications Center (2002) Assessed efficiency and effectiveness of Communications Center operations including an analysis of workload trends. Presented April 23, 2002.

Office Overtime (2000)
Disposition
of Firearms (1999) The study was conducted to determine whether the county’s practices in the disposition of firearms are in compliance with state and local laws and to determine the fiscal impact of the county’s practice. Presented September 28, 1999.
Criminal Justice Funding (1997) The audit reviewed whether criminal justice funds designated to hire new police officers were spent for that purpose. Presented May 13, 1997. Police Overtime for Court Appearances
(1993) The audit determined the impact of the Fair Labor Standards Act on Dept. of Public Safety court overtime expenditures. The audit also examined strategies for reducing this overtime. Office of Emergency Management
(1992) This study evaluated the Office of Emergency Management's operations to determine its effectiveness and potential for an enhanced County-wide emergency management function. |
