The management letter provides information on the nature and extent of complaints and employee misconduct in the King County Sheriff's Office. Issued October 30, 2006.
Jail Overtime The audit objectives were to determine whether the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention is cost-effectively managing its staffing, overtime, and compensatory time costs for post staffing; to review the department's policies and practices relating to scheduling of employee leave, compensatory time, training, holiday time, etc., to understand how they affect overtime use; and to evaluate whether current overtime use practices have cost impacts that could be mitigated or avoided, or which may merit further study. Presented October 9, 2006.
Follow up on Economic Analysis of Capital Projects This management letter follows up on three capital planning performance audits: Wastewater Treatment Division, 2003; Roads Services Division, 2004; and the Transit Division, 2005. It also provides a set of principles that, it followed, will assist the agencies and the county in establishing a more rigorous, consistent, and transparent process for making capital decisions. Presented October 9, 2006.
Management of Brightwater Treatment Plant Engineering Services Contract
Amendments This audit evaluates the county's management of the contracting processes, including contract amendments, for the professional design engineering services for the Brightwater treatment plant. Presented October 9, 2006.
Civil Division King County Prosecuting Attorney's
Office The audit obtained a general overview of the efficiency and effectiveness of the Civil Division by interviewing its customers, comparing costs to other jurisdictions, and assessing its performance measurement system. It also reviewed the division's model for billing its customers and its policies for selecting and monitoring the use of outside counsel. Presented August 22, 2006.
Report on King County Concurrency Modeling Review The study assessed the validity of the transportation modeling practices used by the Roads Services Division for the program, and assessed the impact of policy changes to the program adopted by the County Council in 2004. Presented July 10, 2006.
New Construction Assessments The audit evaluated the effectiveness of new construction assessments, including legal compliance, Assessor's Office's processes, and new assessment forecasts for budgeting purposes. Presented June 13, 2006.
