| King
County Councilmember Reagan Dunn announced the hiring of former County Councilmember
Steve Hammond to work agricultural issues on Dunn’s district staff.
According to Dunn, the job will be a limited role exclusively focused on
agriculture.
“I’ve
gotten to know Steve very well over the past few years and he is the right
person for this job,” said Dunn. “He’s currently operating
a beef farm and from his former work as a Councilmember, Steve is very
familiar with the agriculture issues in this community. The people of
District 9 will be well served by having Steve on board.”
Steve Hammond served
on the King County Council from 2003 to 2005. He was known for his work
on agriculture and property rights issues.
“I’m excited
about helping Councilmember Dunn serve the agriculture needs of his constituents
in District 9,” said Hammond. “With my experience, I think
I can really be of assistance.”
Dunn also announced
that Hammond will represent him at agriculture meetings and recommend
policies and legislation that assist the agricultural community in District
9 and King County as a whole.
“Farmers need
to be able to better access King County services and improve the way King
County interacts with them, both at an individual and a policy level,”
said Hammond.
“As this County
continues to get more populated and urbanized, County government needs
to work harder at sustaining agriculture and agricultural land,”
said Dunn.
King
County Councilmember Reagan Dunn represents District 9 including the cities
of Bellevue, Black Diamond, Covington, Enumclaw, Kent, Maple Valley, Newcastle,
and Renton as well as a very large swath of unincorporated King County.
