PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, agriculture and farms are, and have been, an important
part of King County and Washington State for over 100 years; and
WHEREAS, a healthy farming community is vital to the health and
welfare of citizens, our local economy, the preservation of open spaces,
promotion of tourism, wildlife habitat, and flood control; and
WHEREAS, the bounty of food that can be found within King County
is varied, nutritious, and delicious; and
WHEREAS, fall is harvest time, one of the best times to visit our
local farms, taste the wide variety of crops grown by our local farmers,
and tour our rural countryside; and
WHEREAS, the ninth annual Harvest Celebration Farm Tour will be held
this year, featuring hayrides, kids’ activities, farm animals, fresh
produce, live music, and cooking demonstrations by chefs; and
WHEREAS, this free event is presented by Washington State University
King County Extension, in partnership with King Conservation District
and King County, and sponsored by 4Culture, Full Circle Farm, PCC Natural
Markets, Puget Sound Fresh, and others;
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Metropolitan King County Council, proclaim
Saturday, September 22, 2007, as
HARVEST
CELEBRATION DAY
in King County and encourage county residents to participate in this
event and enjoy the bounty of our local farms.
