Councilmember Julia Patterson’s statement on the defeat of Proposition 1

“It’s important now that we listen and understand why more voters did not say yes to Proposition 1.

“The diverse interests that produced this package – Republicans, Democrats, labor, business, environmental groups, transit, roads, and leaders throughout Snohomish, King and Pierce County – need to stay together and work towards a redefined transportation solution.

“It’s vital we get everyone back around the table and figure out what is next. Rising construction costs and inflation make it imperative we act swiftly to chart a new course for the future of transportation in this region.

“The defeat of Proposition One does not change the fact that we are still stuck in traffic and that we need more transit alternatives. We understand that relieving congestion and providing transit alternatives is still a priority to our constituents.

“It’s time to roll up our sleeves and go back to work.”
