King County Councilmember Dow
Constantine will chair the County Council’s Transportation Committee
and Committee of the Whole under a leadership plan unanimously approved
by the Council on Dec. 17.
Constantine was also elected as the Council’s Vice Chair for Policy and will continue his service on the Sound Transit Board. “I’m honored to be chosen for these key King County Council leadership positions,” said Constantine. “As chair of the Transportation Committee, I look forward to working on future regional transportation proposals and to obtaining funding for important local safety needs, such as the replacement of the South Park Bridge.” The Committee of the Whole is the only committee that includes all nine Councilmembers. Its Monday morning meetings serve as a forum for briefings and discussions on many of the most complex issues facing King County. As Vice-Chair for Policy, Constantine will serve on the Council’s management team, which sets the agendas for meetings of the Council and Committee of the Whole and coordinates the referral and scheduling of legislation. Constantine was appointed to the Council in 2002 and subsequently re-elected four times, most recently this November. A former member of both the Washington State Senate and House of Representatives, Constantine has served as a member of the Council’s budget leadership team since 2002, chairing the Operating Budget Committee in 2006 and Capital Budget Committee in 2007, and serving as chair of the County’s 2007 annual budget process. Constantine
also chaired the Council’s Labor, Operations and Technology Committee
in 2002 and 2003 and the Growth Management and Natural Resources Committee
from 2004 to 2006. |
