Erika was receiving Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) when she first came to KCJI. She’s married and is the mother of one child. She didn’t have any prior vocational training and her only work experience was from temporary jobs. Erika successfully completed the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course at South Seattle Community College and passed the state exam. She’s now working at a local community care center as a CNA making $11.29 per hour. Erika told KCJI that she is extremely happy with her career in the health profession and to be off of welfare!

Devon is an Environmental Technician and Consultant earning $12 per hour
Devon attended the Brownfields Training with Cole & Associates (Cole) this spring and was immediately offered a job at Cole as an Environmental Technician and Consultant for $12 per hour plus benefits. Cole was extremely impressed with Devon’s capability and potential and has been very pleased with his job performance. Devon really enjoys the work he is doing and the possibility of advancement within Cole. Devon has gone on to acquire additional training and a subsequent raise in pay. Devon continues to work well. Cole is considering hiring additional students from the present class based on this experience.
