County DDD Funds the Self-Advocacy Leadership Education Advocacy Partnership

The Leadersip project assists adults with developmental disabilities in becoming effective leaders and influencing the developmental disabilities system. Participants are recruited from all geographic areas of King County. At least 60% of the participants live independently in the community and/or with their families or other relatives.

Support and skill development needs are identified for each participant. Identified support may include, but are not limited to, assistance with transportation, stipends, internships and other accommodations. Skill development includes teaching participants to communicate their needs assertively, to understand existing laws and benefits, learn and practice decision making and problem solving skills and the responsibilities of citizenship and any other areas as identified by the participant.
