Success Stories
JOHN
John was unemployed and living in his broken down truck when he was referred to
ATR by the Community Center for Alternatives Program. He was skeptical of ATR
because he was accustomed to promises of help that did not materialize. ATR
staff assured him that they would do their best to support him as long as he
remained in treatment.
ATR initially issued John a bus pass to help him get to treatment and look for
work. Then John found clean and sober housing and negotiated a very reasonable
rent. ATR authorized a deposit and rental assistance for several months to allow
him to focus on his treatment obligations.
John completed a flagger training program paid for by ATR and began a part-time
job while in treatment. ATR helped him to purchase boots needed for the job.
When John completes treatment and begins to work full-time, he will be required
to travel to various construction sites. He obtained estimates for repairs to
his truck and ATR was able to pay for them.
John continues to be successful in treatment, is gaining work experience, and
sees a brighter future ahead
FRANI
Frani, a 55-year old mother of four, has an extensive history of abusing crack
cocaine, which damaged her relationship with her family and disrupted her
education. She was referred to ATR by Therapeutic Health Services, where she had
entered intensive outpatient treatment.
ATR initially assisted Frani with three months rental assistance to prevent
eviction and utility bills to avoid shut offs. ATR also authorized car repairs
and gas vouchers so that she would have transportation to and from treatment.
With ATR assistance, Frani has returned to community college to pursue
certification as a Chemical Dependency Professional. ATR has also helped her
obtain household items, clothing, and personal items for herself and her family.
Due to her success in treatment and support from ATR, Frani is reunited with her
children and grandchildren. She participates in Narcotics Anonymous meetings,
faith-based services, and volunteers at food banks throughout the Seattle area.
