KING COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL URGES CAUTION
DURING JULY 4th HOLIDAY

The King County Fire Marshal’s Office urges everyone to observe the fireworks regulations in their area during the 4th of July holiday. The Fire Marshal’s Web site at www.metrokc.gov/ddes/fire/fireworks.htm lists all city and county regulations on discharging fireworks, as well as locations for public fireworks displays. Fireworks are illegal in many cities throughout King County.

King County Fire Marshal John Klopfenstein noted, “The 4th of July is a time for family fun and tradition. However, as we enter the fireworks season, public safety has to be our first priority.

If safe and sane fireworks are permitted in your area, it is still critical that sound safety practices are observed. This includes adults supervising children at all times, as well as having a hose readily available. In addition, never aim fireworks at cedar roofs or dry brush.”

In unincorporated King County, only legal or safe and sane fireworks can be used from 9 a.m. to midnight on the day of July 4th. Any flying firework with a stick or fins, and all fireworks that explode are illegal.

There are many fireworks displays offered to the public throughout King County. The King County Fire Marshal encourages citizens to take advantage of these opportunities in order to enjoy the 4th of July holiday as safely as possible.
