KING COUNTY CIVIL RIGHTS COMMISSION ISSUES
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS
OF ALL CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS OF U.S.

On March 19, 2003, the King County Civil Rights Commission authorized the following Resolution:
"We, as members of the King County Civil Rights Commission, call on all Americans to respect and protect the civil and human rights of all our fellow citizens and residents of the United States during this time of war between the Coalition Forces and the nation of Iraq.

"We do not wish to see a repeat of the attacks on Arab Americans and their institutions of the sort that occurred in King County and elsewhere after September 11th. We do not wish to see America dishonor its ideals by a repetition of the injustices that were inflicted upon other groups of citizens and/or non-citizens during earlier periods of our nation's history.

"We call upon our fellow citizens, residents and all governmental officials of King County to continue to respect and protect the civil and human rights of all people, with a pledge to prevent a war abroad from becoming an excuse for injustice at home."

The King County Civil Rights Commission was established in December, 1995 to take a strong leadership role in raising community awareness and involvement on civil rights issues and to advise the King County Executive and County Council on matters related to the County's civil rights programs. The Commission works in collaboration with a variety of civil rights interest groups including community, business, civic, and religious organizations.
