Container Glass

Container Glass

All types of container glass are recyclable; in 2005 in the U.S. 2.76 million tons of glass was recovered.1

Each year, approximately 40,000 tons of container glass are generated in King County, about 21,000 tons of which are being recycled.1 Although glass is one of most common materials for recycling, a number of barriers exist to improving current and finding new markets for recycling this abundant material.

While barriers exist, end markets for recycled container glass are strong. In addition to being used in new bottles and containers, recycled glass is often bought for industrial use, especially in construction applications.

LinkUp is gathering information on research, connecting with experts and working to identify and overcome market barriers to expand the recycling of container glass.

Check back regularly for updated news and resources on what's happening with container glass in King County.
