Grants

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants for assessment and cleanup are available to municipalities, Native American tribes and nonprofit organizations. Private businesses and landowners are not eligible for these grants.

Assessment Grants

  • $200,000 grants are available from EPA on a competitive basis to conduct initial and in-depth environmental site assessments.
  • Municipalities are eligible and may apply directly to EPA (external link) or through King County with help from the Brownfields Program.
  • Private businesses and landowners and nonprofit organizations are not eligible.

Cleanup Grants

  • $200,000 grants are available from EPA on a competitive basis to conduct site cleanup. A 20 percent match is required.
  • Municipalities and nonprofit organizations are eligible. Municipalities may apply directly to EPA (external) or through King County with help from the Brownfields Program. Nonprofit organizations must apply directly to EPA but can obtain application assistance from the Brownfields Program.
  • Private businesses and landowners are not eligible.
