Endeavor Elementary teachers, Diane Parham, Leslie Smith, and Gabrielle Herring, turned an overgrown hillside and bioswale into a learning resource for the school and community.

Rose Hill Junior High teachers Angie Laulainen and Karen Dunning and students Vu Tran and Lisa Dang accept the Earth Heroes at School award for their leadership in the school’s comprehensive recycling program.

John Schmied of Skyview Junior High was honored for his work in establishing an environmental center in the woods adjacent to the school. Marie Hartford, a teacher at Thoreau Elementary, was a 2006 Earth Hero.

Scott Weide of Cascade Middle School in Auburn was recognized for his passion to preserve natural resources through his curriculum that connects students to local environmental issues.

Teacher Maggie Windus of Juanita Elementary, recognized for her leadership in improving the school’s recycling program, holds a photo of her students, all of whom played a part in planning, promoting and maintaining the program.

Teacher Elizabeth Wing was honored for her passion for environmental education and for inspiring students such as Makenna Kirk and Max Wing to participate in recycling, green gardening and other stewardship projects.

Students Teal Stannard, Philip Park and Clara Manahan along with their teacher Jen Johnson were honored for establishing a lunchroom composting and recycling program at West Woodland Elementary.

This Apollo Elementary team organized and ensured participation in a lunchroom recycling program that increased recycling by 30 percent.  Pictured are teacher Karen DeBrueler, Principal Marla Erath, teachers Renee Coon and Eric Nelson and lead custodian Mike Engen.

Teachers Tina Taylor, Gerie Wilson and Glenda Berliner are the dedicated founders and caretakers of the Chautauqua Kid’s Garden which serves as an outdoor classroom at Chautauqua Elementary.
