Earth Heroes at SchoolThe Earth Heroes at School Program celebrates King County students, teachers, staff, and volunteers who implement projects at their school or beyond to protect our environment. Is someone at your school an outstanding advocate for conserving natural resources? Do you have a school program that reduces your school's impact on our environment? If so, nominate them for an Earth Heroes at School award! Winners are honored each year at a reception featuring entertainment, refreshments, and presentation of awards by King County Executive Ron Sims. View a slide show of 2008 winners (below) or read a full description of all 2008 Earth Heroes at School projects (PDF, 92 K). Not pictured: Erin Spiess, a teacher at Chief Kanim Middle School in Fall City, transformed an inconsistent recycling program into a firmly established system with high participation. The Cool School Challenge Student Team at Redmond High School fine-tuned a greenhouse gas emissions reduction project created by teacher Mike Town and trained students at other schools in the Lake Washington School District.
