Listing Policy

Complete guidelines for use of the Online Materials Exchange are outlined in the User Agreement. To help users properly list items, we have highlighted some listing policies here and describe how we handle listing violations when they are discovered.

The Online Materials Exchange Web site is operated by the King County Solid Waste Division (SWD) as a public service to the residents of King County. The goal of the Online Materials Exchange is to provide a safe and efficient venue for exchanging relatively inexpensive, re-usable items so that these items may be kept out of the waste stream. The focus of the Online Materials Exchange is waste reduction; not financial gain by registered site users.

To accomplish these goals, the SWD may set price restrictions for the household items and building materials listed on the site. In addition, various categories of listings are prohibited for reasons of public safety, site efficiency, or because they do not satisfy the goals of the Online Materials Exchange.

Whether a listing satisfies these policies and accomplishes the stated goals of the Online Materials Exchange is determined at the sole discretion of the site administrator. The site administrator may remove a listing at any time and for any reason.

In addition, the site administrator may, at his or her discretion, temporarily or permanently bar a user from accessing the Online Materials Exchange if the user has listed an item that violates these listing policies. The decision of the site administrator to remove an item or to suspend a user from the site is final and not subject to appeal or review.

Prohibited Items
The Online Materials Exchange does not permit users to place listings for items that are deemed harmful, offensive, or illegal. A sample list of such items is set forth in the Prohibited Items list. Listings that contain prohibited items will immediately be removed from the Online Materials Exchange upon discovery. IMPORTANT: LISTING ITEMS THAT ARE HARMFUL, OFFENSIVE, OR ILLEGAL MAY SUBJECT YOU TO CRIMINAL OR CIVIL PROSECUTION.

Offensive Language, and Harmful, Inaccurate or Deceptive Descriptions or Materials
The Online Materials Exchange does not permit users to place listings that contain offensive language or harmful, inaccurate or deceptive descriptions or materials. Listings that contain offensive language, or harmful, inaccurate or deceptive descriptions or materials will immediately be removed from the Online Materials Exchange.

Geographic Restrictions
Only persons/organizations within King County may list items on the Online Materials Exchange. Persons from outside the geographic boundaries of King County may browse and contact users for more information on listings.

Age Restrictions
Only individuals who are older than eighteen (18) years of age may list items on the Online Materials Exchange. The site is open in terms of those people who wish to browse or purchase items. The SWD provides no assurance about the age of any individual using this site. All parties are advised that they are responsible for complying with all relevant laws concerning contracting with juveniles.

Advertisements and Credits
The Online Materials Exchange does not permit users to place in their listings advertisements for third party companies, products, or services. Listings may only describe the item for sale.

Bonuses, giveaways, raffles and prizes
Listings that promote bonus items, giveaways, or random drawings or prizes as an enticement for buyers are not permitted, and will be removed upon discovery.

Links
Users may place a simple link to another Web page in the description portion of their listing to help provide more information about the listed item. However, links to sites offering merchandise prohibited on the Online Materials Exchange are not permitted and will be removed upon discovery.

Item Amount Limits
The SWD may set listing price restrictions independently for the household and building materials sections of the Online Materials Exchange. Listings that attempt to bypass this price limit, where it exists, by stating a higher price in the text of the listing or by demanding a higher price when contacted by an interested party may be deleted and the user barred from future use of the site.

The maximum dollar amount allowed for items listed in the household materials section of the Online Materials Exchange is currently $250.00. There currently is no limit for items listed in the reusable building materials section of the site. If you have items you wish to sell that are greater than the price limit(s) set for the Online Materials Exchange, please contact one of the many local classified advertising resources in the area.

If you have additional questions, please contact the site administrator.
