Project purpose

The King County Solid Waste Division will construct a new transfer station at the site of the existing First Northeast Transfer/Recycling Station in Shoreline.

The new facility will replace the transfer station that was built in 1967 at the site of the former Corliss Landfill that operated from approximately 1946 to 1959. The station has served the north King County community well, but it can no longer provide for today's service needs. It must be updated to meet current building standards and accommodate projected future growth in the existing service area, which primarily includes Shoreline and Lake Forest Park as well as Kenmore and Bothell.

The efficiencies planned for this station will help keep disposal rates as low as possible when King County's remaining landfill reaches capacity and solid waste is exported to an out-of-county landfill.
