For nearly 30 years,
I’ve proudly worn the uniform of a King County police officer. I have stood on
the front line with some of the finest men and women in law enforcement today.
It is because of the faith I have in them -- their strength, honor and
professionalism -- that I want to continue to lead this office as your King
County Sheriff.
As Sheriff, I believe
that character, values and courage count. Four years ago, I promised to lead a
professional, non-political police department. I promised to do more to combat
domestic violence and keep our schools safe. I’ve kept my promises.
Today we have a
Domestic Violence Unit focusing on misdemeanor offenses and working with
families having problems. By resolving family conflicts early on, I believe we
can prevent tragic consequences from ever happening.
With the help of
federal and school district grants, we have a safety program in place in our
local high schools. School resource officers are working on a daily basis with
the students and school staff to protect and provide each of them a safe
environment in which to learn.
My overriding mission
as Sheriff will continue to be the reduction of crime and the protection of all
law-abiding citizens. I will continue my efforts to fight for the resources we
need -- on the streets, in the air and on the water -- to see that the people of
King County are adequately protected.
I have proudly
accepted the endorsements of police chiefs and sheriffs, citizens and
small-business owners, as well as Democrats, Republicans and Independents
throughout King County. As Sheriff, I promise to continue my hard work for safe
streets, safe schools and safe neighborhoods. I would appreciate your support
and vote once again. Thank you.
