My service to Federal Way began in 1974. I have been board president of the
Federal Way Boys and Girls Club, the Chamber of Commerce, Centerstage Theatre,
Federal Way Library Board, and King County Library Board. I helped create the
Hylebos State Park, the Aquatics Center, and helped bring St. Francis Hospital
here. I am a Federal Way Citizen of the Year recipient.
My education (economics major and M.B.A. finance concentration) and work
experience (Army finance officer, 15-years in management with Weyerhaeuser
Company, and 18-years with Merrill Lynch) provide me with the budget/finance
knowledge to assure tax dollars are used wisely to provide quality emergency
services.
As your Fire Department Commissioner I am committed to representing you and
maintaining the department’s high quality. My experiences working on behalf of
this community in many capacities have prepared me to serve you well. I would
appreciate your vote.

Mel has been both a
manager of a major grocery store and a firefighter; he understands the
importance of service and balancing budgets. The future of the
fire service will be the challenge to maintain the best quality of service at a
reasonable cost to the citizens. With tax dollars becoming tighter and the
uncertainty of revenue, the fire department must continue to explore
consolidation of services with other agencies and fire departments to improve
services and reduce operating costs. Mel will be committed to see that the
citizens of the district are provided the best service and protection. With his
background as a business manager and fire service experience, he will bring a
balanced approach to your Board of Fire Commissioners. Vote Melvin McMahon for
Fire Commissioner.
