PUBLIC HOSPITAL DISTRICT NO. 1 COMMISSIONER POS. NO. 05, 6 YR TERM

Gary F. Kohlwes

Gary Kohlwes is synonymous with community service. A hospital commissioner since 1995, he believes quality care and convenient access are the hospital district’s top priorities.

To that end, Gary participates in Valley’s quality assurance committee and has been an ardent proponent of expanding VMC’s family practice clinics throughout the hospital district. As a champion for enhancing services to the senior population, his involvement in Valley’s GoldenCare program has benefited 13,000+ members with free and low cost health screenings, help with insurance issues and medical paperwork and health education programs. In addition, Gary advocated for the hospital’s new Center for Joint Replacement, expanded Sleep Center and cutting edge imaging technology. These are just a few of his efforts to bring the finest and most sophisticated services in healthcare close to home.

Voted Renton’s 1996 Citizen of the Year, Gary has served on numerous community boards and committees. He served as Renton’s superintendent of public schools, was president of Renton Rotary, participates on a local bank board and is currently president of the Renton Community Foundation. His knowledge of public/private initiatives are vast, and his leadership is highly respected among members of the community.
