CITY OF KENT CITY OF KENT MAYOR, 4 YR TERM

Bob O'Brien

Out of Control Spending - Since 1997 our population has increased from 70,110 to 73,140 - an increase of 4%. In the same time our spending has gone from $43,950,000 to $56,950,000 - an increase of 23%.

Bloated Bureaucrats - Our part time Mayor, at $80,000/yr, has 9 full time assistants who collectively receive $1,043,472. In the 2001 budget, 2 more Assistants at $176,960 are added.

Bonded Debt - In the past two years our bonded debt has increased by $40,280,000. You never had a chance to vote on any of it! This year the estimate is for $15 million more due to recent purchase of the Borden property.

Meanwhile simple but important things such as closing a Meth house or installing a STOP sign in your neighborhood don’t get attention.

Bob O’Brien, a 25- year Kent resident and a proven business leader, listens to people and will get the necessary things done.

Jim White

I have served the City of Kent for almost two decades, both as a City Councilman and since 1994 as Mayor. Five generations of my family have lived here.

As your Mayor, I have insisted that Public Safety be the City’s top priority. My conservative fiscal policies have stabilized the City’s budget; the City’s finances are healthy. Our award winning park system is acknowledged as among the finest in the state. Kent has grown into a place where families can live, work, play and prosper.

The population of Kent has more than doubled since I took office in 1994. That growth brings with it new challenges. To meet them I will work to grow our economy, not raise taxes, and work to complete major east-west corridors that will relieve traffic congestion.

I enjoy this work; I believe I am good at it and I ask for your support.
