I understand their needs for safe neighborhoods, strong schools for their children, reasonable commutes to and from work, and for a vibrant local economy to support the important public safety and recreational needs of all our citizens.

I am a graduate of Enumclaw High School, and the University of Washington. I have been a self-employed business owner for many years. I am a member and past Secretary of the Rotary Club of Kent. I would appreciate the opportunity to be your voice for Kent's future. Thank you.

Are you tired of increasing taxes, with no real benefit seen? We all have a budget to work with, and decisions to make regarding what we need, and what would be nice to have. The City of Kent should operate no differently. As a city, we need to have outstanding Police and Fire Departments. We need to maintain our utilities, and improve our road structure for transportation. Yes, there are wants, but our needs must take priority. It must be done with a real budget; not one based on "projected" revenue. Raising taxes is the simple solution to pay for everything. You elect people to make the hard decisions, and I will do that for you. The government does nothing to generate revenue, except to take your hard-earned dollars. It's time for government to live with what they have, and take no more.

BOELKE

I am running for Kent City Council for one reason: to serve the community. I've been involved in a number of efforts to improve and strengthen our community, including Habitat for Humanity, several charitable honor societies, and donations to the Kent Food and Clothing Bank.

In my experience as a legislative intern to U.S. Senator Patty Murray and a publicly elected precinct committee officer, I have seen the effect that governmental decisions can have on a community. If elected, I will work diligently to promote economic development in the city through the revitalization of the downtown area, protect the community by maintaining high-quality police and fire departments, increase transportation options in an efficient and fiscally responsible way, and maintain the excellence of our park programs. I will also work to bring the diverse elements of Kent together and strive for compromise on the tough decisions that our community faces.
