I will also work with you to rally the best in our community's thinking and action on behalf of our children. Thank you for your support." - Darlene Flynn

Steve Brown — Nonpartisan

Photo of Steve Brown — Nonpartisan

Steve Brown is the only candidate in his race with children currently in Seattle Public Schools. With 7th and 9th graders, Steve has a personal stake in continuing to work on his vision: a quality education for EVERY child in SAFE, CARING schools.

Steve Brown is endorsed by school principals Terry Acena, Karen Kodama, Joe Drake, Rickie Malone, Ed James, Jennifer Wiley, Robert Radford and Birgit McShane. Schools like Ingraham, Cleveland, Hamilton, and Mercer have new leadership, block schedules, and multicultural curriculum. We have raised test scores and lowered dropout rates while implementing high standards for all kids.

Steve Brown responded quickly and decisively to the district's financial crisis. When the Board learned that it had not been given the truth about the budget, Steve took the lead in hiring outside auditors, creating new accountability measures, and balancing the budget. Personnel changes were made. A new financial team was put in place.

Steve Brown has been deeply involved with children for many years. Steve teaches an innovative program called kidLAW® where children prepare mock trials based on classics from Romeo and Juliet to The Cat in the Hat. Steve served as Vice-President of Seattle Council PTSA and Co-President of Green Lake Elementary PTA.

"My goals for re-election are clear: Hire a new Superintendent; Hold that Superintendent accountable to our educational vision; Complete reforms to ensure fiscal accuracy and accountability; and Continue to personalize education so that every child succeeds at every school."

Endorsers: Former/present School Board members Al Sugiyama, Don Nielsen, Ellen Roe, Jan Kumasaka, Barbara Schaad-Lamphere, Michael Preston; State Legislators Frank Chopp, Helen Sommers, Jim McIntire, Phyllis Kenney, Adam Kline, Mary Lou Dickerson; Community leaders Sally Chong, Ref Lindmark, Ricardo Sanchez, Shan Mullin, Javier Valdez; Classified School Employees Union (Local 609); Seattle-King County Building Trades Council; MUNICIPAL LEAGUE: VERY GOOD.
