If elected to the School Board, I will work hard to insure that our limited monies are spent wisely and fairly and to insure that our children are prepared to pass the WASL. I hope to bring new ideas, a new point of view, and my interest and excitement about education to the Federal Way School Board. As a parent of two children, I have followed very closely the changes and challenges facing our school district. I regularly attend School Board meetings and keep myself informed on the educational issues facing our students and district, especially the current budgetary problems.

Since 1995, I have volunteered in the classroom, served on my elementary school Leadership Team, and served as a PTA officer and committee chair. I have served on the Federal Way School District Community Advisory Council and the ad-hoc budget committee.

Thank you for your support.

Education takes 44% of your taxes. The student dropout rate is over 30%, less than 20% enter four year colleges, and Washington State is 50th in the number of students in their 3rd and 4th years of college. If this continues our school district will graduate less than 30% of our students in 2008. We must provide a more effective education for all of our children. Schools should report real student progress. Uninvolved parents need to be awakened to the effects disengagement has upon their children. Authentic learning can only occur when parents, students, and teachers form true partnerships. Schools can no longer fund courses that do not lead to measurable achievement. As a former educator and school board member who has followed these changes, I believe I can work to make this happen.
