Schools should be held to higher standards, and supported so that all children can do better academically.

My role is to represent the owners of the schools -- the community; provide oversight and policy guidance; two-way communication between the schools and the community; and advocate for the best interests of students and families, teachers and support staff. One way to build trust is to build excellent schools on time and within budget. Another is to make sure our schools are safe places for students to learn.

Member of Highline Citizens for Schools, Friends of the North Highline Fire District, White Center Community School Advisory Council, and the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce. Awarded Honorary Life Membership by the Highline Council PTSA in 2003.

Re-Elect Tom Slattery for Highline School Board.

Patrick E. Mullen — Nonpartisan

I, Patrick Mullen, want to make the Highline School District a better educational place for all handicapped and non-handicapped students.

I think our schools should be better academically. First, I propose a strong focus on teaching civics, world history, American history, mathematics and physical education.

I am for restoring corporal punishment in school and kicking out all trouble-makers who sell drugs and carry arms to school.

And I am for making our elementary, middle school, and high school students better readers.

Most of my education was home-schooling and I am self-educated; I would like our schools to help students become lifelong, self-motivated learners.

I have worked as a microfilm worker, a fish processor, a sweeper, a longshoreman and a warehouse laborer. I think all my work experience in the real world helps me know what kids really need to learn in school in order to survive and thrive.
