I am seeking election because our district not only needs to prepare students for college, but also for careers that require specialized vocational training or an apprenticeship program.

My wife, Mary, and I have lived here more than 30 years, raising two children. I have served on the advisory committee of the Occupational Skills Center for 15 years. I have been an instructor and board member of the AGC of Washington Education Foundation. I serve as treasurer of the 33rd District Democrats and of Carpenters Local 1797. This kind of experience is what our school board needs to develop the best futures for our children.

We must all do what we can to meet the goal of truly leaving no child behind. If elected, I will focus on ensuring that our district offers a full range of educational opportunities that matches the needs of our diverse ethnic and economic constituencies.

Great public schools are vital for the Highline community. My wife and I are graduates of the Highline School District, and are raising our family here. My background is in Business Finance and Information Systems. As a board member my mission is to make Highline the district others model themselves after.

Challenging Academic Program for All Kids. Our schools must challenge ALL students. Programs should be enriched with athletics, music, arts, and career exploration; and supported with appropriate technology.

Safe and Sound Learning Environment. We must strive to ensure new buildings are delivered on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to the learning process. Learning environments need to be healthy, well maintained, violence-free, and sensitive to diversity.

Budget to Maximize Student Achievement. We must attract and retain quality staff, maintain current learning materials, and standardize on programs demonstrating progress toward state and federal student achievement goals.
