  In 1994, I was able to return to the Northwest and settle my family in Vashon. For almost nine years I have served as a volunteer firefighter, EMT, medical supply officer, dispatcher and lieutenant. I will bring a level of practical knowledge and expertise to the Commission that the Board has not experienced for some time. Decisions have been made affecting the safety of the residents of Vashon and Maury Islands based on limited and faulty input. I hope to change that. The budget has ballooned out of control. Spending needs to be tempered by mature judgment relative to the true needs of the islands. Self-sufficiency is key, and the people deserve to be adequately prepared for any eventuality.

Vashon must support Fire and Rescue so that it is ready for any emergency. With my experience in professional ski patrol, three years with Harborview Hospital, 12 years as a boat builder, and more than 25 years as an independent businessman I will bring down to earth experience to the commission. Growth on the island has brought about ever changing needs: with the increased size of structures, a number of homes with limited access, increased marine activities, and added vehicular traffic. Vashon Fire and Rescue must continue to develop a sound plan for the future. I promise to work hard for next 6 years to support our firefighters while respecting my fellow commissioners in order to help Vashon Island Fire and Rescue be ready for any and all emergencies.
