The Right Priorities for a Successful Monorail. Cleve will ensure on time, on budget construction, with Accountable Leadership, Livable Neighborhoods, Integrated Transit Choices, Environmental Protection and Living-Wage Jobs.

Cleve is the only candidate with extensive monorail experience. He co-authored Seattle's second monorail initiative, saving the project from repeal and eliminating wasteful route duplication with light rail. He led the fight for elected board members. An attorney for 17 years, he has litigated complex financial cases, represented the monorail agency, and protected neighborhoods from transportation project impacts. Cleve has 12 years' community experience, serving on King County Conservation Voters, Coalition for Healthy Communities, Transportation Choices Coalition, Rainier Institute and the 36th District Democrats.

The Seattle Times (8/24/03) endorsed Cleve Stockmeyer, calling him a "strong choice" who would "step into the job and do well. . . .Stockmeyer, 46, began as an insider, writing the monorail ballot initiative of 2000 and working as the agency's lawyer. A year later, he broke with the monorail board over the issue of elected directors, and now is running for the public seat he helped create. Stockmeyer understands the power that will come with voter endorsement and obviously does not shrink from challenging management." The Times also said one opponent "does not have the deep knowledge of this agency, nor the pugnaciousness, that Stockmeyer does."

Cleve's endorsers include Washington Conservation Voters; King County Labor Council; Amalgamated Transit Union; Building Trades Council; 11th, 34th, 36th, 37th and 46th District Democrats; King County Democrats; Speaker Frank Chopp, Senators Erik Poulsen and Adam Kline; Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson; City Council President Peter Steinbrueck and Councilmember Heidi Wills; County Council Chair Cynthia Sullivan and Councilmembers Dow Constantine and Larry Philips.

I want to be your financial watchdog on the Seattle Monorail Project. I am the only candidate for Position #9 with 26 years of public finance experience on large, complex projects.

As state finance officer and deputy state treasurer in the Office of State Treasurer, I issued, sold, and administered the state's $7.9 billion bond portfolio. I issued bonds to finance state highways, ferries, higher education facilities, and state parks projects.

At $1.75 billion, the Seattle Monorail is the largest project ever undertaken in the city. The Green Line, extending from Ballard to West Seattle, is Phase I of the Project. Future phases will be submitted to the voters for approval before construction can begin. It is vital that Phase I be completed on time, on budget, and in a way that gives you, the voters, confidence in Monorail management and Monorail governance by the Board.

I am a Washington native. I graduated from Ingraham High School and I've earned a B.A., M.P.A., and M.B.A., all from the University of Washington. I also served in the United States Army (1967-71). I have been active in the community, most notably as an elected board member of the Washington State Employees Credit Union (Chair in 2003). I also acted as a financial consultant for Puget Sound Neighborhood Health Centers new High Point Clinic. My wife, Cynthia, and I reside on north Capitol Hill where we entertain our two new grandchildren.

I believe I have the experience and skills to represent your interests fairly and objectively. That's why I've been endorsed by Booth Gardner, Norm Rice, Helen Sommers, Ed Murray, Joe Taller, and Wayne Ehlers.

I ask for your vote for Monorail Board of Directors, Position #9.
