When I ran for County Council in
1999 I promised to build upon my record of fighting for lower property taxes,
reducing traffic congestion, and improving police services.
I have kept those promises.
As Budget Committee chairman, I
curbed county government's appetite for new taxes - now instead of growing at
two to three times the rate of inflation, property tax revenues have been
capped at inflation or less.
I've worked to take
transportation solutions off the drawing board to improve the daily commute. My
budgets as Transportation Committee Chair doubled roads spending and eliminated
two-thirds of the project backlog.
We've increased funding for Metro
bus service and developed a plan to increase mobility on the I-405/SR 167 corridor
from Lynnwood to Kent.
By rejecting cuts to the number
of deputy sheriffs on patrol, we've improved response times to urgent calls for
help.
There is more to be done.
We need to trim King County's
spending to live within our means.
Our transportation system
struggles with growing congestion and crowded commuter buses. We must focus on
investments that have the greatest impact.
If you live in the Sixth
District, I ask for your vote in this fall's elections. Thank you.
