In facing the challenges that come with the kind of growth Redmond has been experiencing, we must provide the administrative staff of our city's various departments with the tools to communicate with one another and to coordinate activities.

Our Growth plan should be easy to follow. A lengthy permit process increases costs for us all and benefits no one. Rules should be simple, clear and unambiguous. Approval (or denial) of permits for contractors, developers, and property owners should be a quick and easy process.

We must dedicate the resources to continue providing the high quality of Fire, Police, and Emergency services on which our citizens have come to depend.

Our elected officials must be able to challenge one another in finding solutions to issues brought before the council and work cooperatively with all branches of city government while moving Redmond towards the future. This I Pledge.

I am running for City Council to keep Redmond a great place to live as we face the challenges of growth. My vision is to make real improvements to traffic flow, create a downtown core that is business and pedestrian-friendly, and preserve the nature of our neighborhoods. For 28 years I've called Redmond home.

Updating the Comprehensive Plan in 2004 will set the City's course for the next six years. Careful capital investment in roads, parks and utilities can uphold our quality of life and serve as smart financial planning. My balanced approach to land use will accommodate moderate growth while maintaining the City's character.

My qualifications include managing a $10 million budget as the Finance Director for Meydenbauer Center. I have held leadership positions in youth baseball, soccer and church. I earned a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Washington and a BA from Seattle University.

I believe that Redmond is a desirable community on the edge of a great future-where open spaces, arts, attractive neighborhoods, access to alternative transportation, recreation and parks have a vibrant presence. As a college teacher for eight years with a Master's in Linguistics, I am skilled at listening to people who have varied cultures, values and backgrounds, and bring a passion for reasoned discussion.

My husband and I have two young children and want to keep Redmond a great place to raise kids. I have demonstrated my commitment to the safety of Redmond families as spokesperson for the Friends of Sammamish Parkway, and see creative transportation solutions and managed growth as crucial for the next generation. As your council member, I will work to moderate growth in the best interests of youth, families, seniors and business, and for a strong return on the investment of your tax dollars.
