King County Local Voters Pamphlet

A Renton resident for over 20 years, I've been a committed volunteer in our municipal government, public schools and neighborhood for many years. I believe I can make a positive difference for Renton as our city moves forward. I appreciate the important role of local government and have the proven leadership to make it work. As Chairman of the Renton Airport Advisory Committee, PTA President, and Vice President of the Kennydale Neighborhood Association, I have experienced the positive impact residents can make for the community when complex issues are addressed with an open mind and a clear understanding of all the facts.

If elected, I will work diligently to promote economic development in the city through the continued revitalization of key business districts, protect the community by maintaining high-quality police and fire departments, work towards resolving transportation concerns in a fiscally responsible way, and maintain the excellence of our parks programs.

Brett Kappenman will work to:

. Preserve Renton's small town friendly environment. Renton is such a great place to work, raise a family and play that Brett has chosen to remain in the city of his birth.

. Protect the constitutional rights of businesses and private citizens from excessive government interference and taxation.

. Project a Positive Direction for the near future of Renton that meets the needs of our citizens by creating livable wage jobs by attracting new businesses to our City.

Since 1987 Brett has followed in his father "KAPPIE'S" footsteps by teaching square dancing to youth. Brett and his wife Crystal now volunteer their time together.

Brett, Crystal and their two children live on Earlington Hill.

Citizen Safety is my top priority. I will work to assure that we maintain our excellent safety services. I recognize that these soft economic times present challenges for our community. I will find solutions that do not sacrifice citizen safety services.

I have had an opportunity to work with city staff serving as a Planning Commissioner, a Board of Adjustments member and a participant on the Housing Element Task Force. It is a privilege to contribute time to the Renton Food Bank, Habitat House and the Renton Eagles Auxiliary. Chair of Tiffany Park Homeowners Association.

Master of Business Administration from Seattle University, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Washington State University.

If elected to represent you on the Renton City Council, I will bring additional knowledge and experience to the council. I will continue to serve the citizens of Renton in the same way I have served you for over a decade as an employee with the state attorney general: with leadership, integrity, dedication and efficiency.

As a lifelong resident of Renton, I understand the needs and desires of our diverse city. I look forward to being a member of a council that will engage the invigorating opportunities and the exciting challenges Renton will face in the future.

As your councilmember, I will work to keep our neighborhoods, our seniors and our families safe and secure. I will work to enhance Renton's image as a business-friendly city. I will work to keep our government efficient and responsive. I will work for you.
