As
a ten year veteran member of the King County Council, I have worked hard at
being a visible and effective leader of the 1.7 million citizens who reside in
our County. I have also advocated successfully on behalf of the people who live
in the inner-city neighborhoods (Central District, Beacon Hill, Downtown,
International District, Capitol Hill and others) of Seattle which compose
District Ten.
Specifically,
as Chair of the Law, Justice and Human Services Committee I have led a campaign
to reduce jail expenditures and expand support for health and human services
programs (drug and mental health treatment, transitional housing, literacy and
employment assistance). I truly believe that public safety is enhanced by
spending more of our tax dollars on making the community healthier.
As
a member of the County Council's Labor Committee, I sponsored an ordinance to
streamline and more fairly standardize employment practices in our government.
Finally,
I have been a strong and active voice on behalf of establishing policies to
help the poor, people of color and other disadvantaged sectors of the
population throughout the County.
I
will be honored to receive your vote for re-election to the Metropolitan King
County Council.
