James E. Fatton – Nonpartisan

A resident of Burien for over 30 years and a small business owner, Jim Fatton (pronounced Fayton) wants to work for a beautiful and vibrant Burien without wasting tax dollars. Mr. Fatton believes that good businesses will come to Burien if they are welcomed instead of charged large fees.

Jim knows many seniors, including his mother, who use the Highline Senior Center on 136th. He wants the City of Burien to be a part of making that facility and program even more exciting and available to seniors.

The skateboard park is great, but our children deserve more. Mr. Fatton proposes asking youth in Burien what they would like, letting them vote on the top proposals and then having the City work with them in accomplishing the best project.

Jim Fatton cares deeply about Burien and would appreciate your vote to give him the opportunity to help others.

Robert (Bob) Pierce – Nonpartisan

Hi, for those that do not know me, I'm Bob Pierce. A Burien native, elected Chairman to the Burien Planning Commission 2000 to 2003. I co-founded the Merchants of Burien, predecessor of Discover Burien.

My opponent, I call "The Thorn," and her siblings on the council, have increased taxes. During her 4 years as councilman, she did nothing to slow the decline of Burien's demographics. She joined hands with the mayor to deny battered women a place to sleep. Her, and her siblings policies made economic development in Burien nearly impossible.

In past years, I have served my community in many ways. Past President of the Greater Burien Community Council, VP of Highline East Little League. My Planning Commission provided a positive blueprint for a new sign code, and led the movement to change downtown development standards. The late Vivian Mathews endorsed me before her passing, I'd appreciate your vote.

Rose Clark – Nonpartisan

As an incumbent it is a delight to see the progress Burien has made. I pledge continued support to the Airport Communities Coalition (ACC). Two major road projects, parks projects, additional police officers and development of Burien's Town Square are just some of the issues I have championed. By supporting Discover Burien I have worked to develop new events in our Town Square to draw people for entertainment and shopping. Listening to residents is key to these successes.

I look forward to strengthening neighborhood Block Watch for emergency preparedness. An exciting issue is trying to mesh a good citywide storm-water plan with low-impact development and a bike/pedestrian link within Burien and regional connections. Dividing my time between working at Tyee High School and Council duties, I look forward to working on these issues and pledge to listen to you. I would be honored by your vote on September 16th.

Gordon Shaw is a 56 year resident who grew up next door to Highline High School. Having been part of the visioning process he sees Burien as a "friendly City with a small town atmosphere." He remembers Burien when it was THE small, friendly, can-do community in the region. He wants to see it become that again.

Gordon has a Bachelors degree in Business from the University of Washington with 28 years of management experience, 9 as the owner of his own company. He has the personnel, marketing, and budgeting skills the City needs. Was a charter member of the Burien Planning Commission for 7 years. He served on the Library Board for 7 years, two as president. He has received several commendations for service to the City from past Councils, including his service on the Planning Commission. He is currently semi-retired and will be a full-time Councilman, not part-time.
