List of Candidates for
CITY OF MERCER ISLAND COUNCIL POS. NO. 07
:

Glenn

LEDBETTER

Because of his more than 15 years of public service on three City Boards and Commissions, Glenn is sensitive to the history of Island issues.  He is a good listener, negotiator, and decision-maker.  He is a team player, not a "Maverick."  He can compromise, but is not a "Yes-Man," and he will stand firm on critical issues.  He can argue and debate without rancor.  On land use and environmental issues, he is a conservationist, not a strict preservationist.  He is pro-parks, trails and schools.

Currently, six key issues face us:  I-90 SOV access; community center; downtown parking; town center development; trails and parks; and Sea-Tac air traffic over MI.

A MI resident for 26 years, Glenn is a residential Realtor, has two adult sons who went through MI schools, holds an MBA degree, is a Vietnam veteran, and is current vice-chair of the Planning Commission.

El

JAHNCKE

As a former school board director with extensive community involvement, El has contributed to the Island's superior quality of life, but has become concerned over recent City Council missteps and the slow pace of addressing urgent needs.

The poor planning that led to the town center parking mess, the squabble with the School District over ballfields, and the current attempt to bring back the same voter-defeated community center plan show the Council needs a new sense of direction.

A successful investment manager of union pension assets, El will apply to city problems the same management and finance skills he uses professionally to focus the city in a new direction.

If elected, El will work to forge a cooperative relationship with the School District, bring fiscal responsibility back to the Council, and address community priorities, including ballfields, parking, I-90 SOV access, and community center renovation.
