As a former school board director with extensive
community involvement, El has contributed to the Island's superior quality of
life, but has become concerned over recent City Council missteps and the slow
pace of addressing urgent needs.
The poor planning that led to the town
center parking mess, the squabble with the School District over ballfields, and
the current attempt to bring back the same voter-defeated community center plan
show the Council needs a new sense of direction.
A successful investment manager of union
pension assets, El will apply to city problems the same management and finance
skills he uses professionally to focus the city in a new direction.
If elected, El will work to forge a
cooperative relationship with the School District, bring fiscal responsibility
back to the Council, and address community priorities, including ballfields,
parking, I-90 SOV access, and community center renovation.
