VASHON-MAURY ISLAND PARK & REC. DISTRICT COMMISSIONER POS. NO. 03
:

Deborah D.

BROWN

In the six years I have served as Program Director and Facilities Coordinator for the Vashon Park District, I have worked hard to provide a wide range of recreational opportunities in the areas of art, environmental study, theatre, adult and youth sports, with special programs for teens and seniors.  Five years ago I developed and obtained funding for the stewardship program which today provides hands-on projects for all ages in our parks.

My goal for the next four years is to continue to pursue additional funding sources to taxpayer financed bonds or levies.

The Vashon Park District is an exciting and ever-evolving organization.  Although I made the decision earlier this year to leave the District's employ to become a full-time mother, I still have much to offer and look forward to serving you as Commissioner.

The acquisition, preservation and maintenance of Vashon parks enhance the Island's rural character and desirability.

Vashon needs a Parks and Recreation Board consisting of clear thinking and decisive commissioners to keep the parks and programs growing and improving.

I have attended most of the Vashon Parks District meetings in the last three years and see a need for a commissioner who has the time and interest to devote to these goals.  Since retiring as president of my own company I have concentrated on serving the community by volunteering for Drama Dock, Mid-Puget Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group, as an elementary school mentor, road cleanup chairman and for Vashon Park District as a park steward  Through the years I have served as president of five community and industry boards, treasurer of two non-profits.

I believe I can now serve Vashon Island best as Parks Board Commissioner No. 3.
