Susan

KLINE

Susan Kline's life focus has been advocacy for children and families.  Susan has worked as a pediatric nurse for 20 years and a nurse practitioner with Health Care for the Homeless in Seattle for 7 years.  She knows how important a good education is to the development of a child's mind and that a poor eduction can permanently compromise a child's future.   As a UW Nursing faculty member, she has seen that an outstanding and committed teacher can make a difference in a student's life.  As an employee of the Public Health Department, Susan knows how to work with government, and as grant writer and implementer of the Franklin High School Teen Health Center for Group Health, she knows how to work with schools.  Susan believes that Seattle's public schools offer the promise of quality education to its children and that Seattle schools need help to deliver on that promise.  As a Seattle School Board member, her objective will be to maintain the focus on academic achievement as the top priority of the school district.  Having Seattle's students meet and exceed Washington's Learning Standards is the goal.  She believes that schools should develop individual educational plans for every student.  An individual plan would assure that each student is on track to meet the standards.  For those not on track, the district must offer prompt remediation through increased attention inside and outside the classroom.  Susan knows that parental and community involvement is essential to our children's learning and attainment of the standards.

Susan Kline offers a unique and important set of skills to the Seattle School Board.  She will be a valuable asset to the board and a powerful advocate for children and families.  Susan knows that the state of Seattle's future is dependent upon the present state of its schools.
