Phyllis BYERS
As a parent of two children attending Highline schools, I have worked with our schools for over 10 years volunteering in the classroom, serving on hiring committees, and as PTA president.  I was a small business owner.  My experiences will help me improve our schools.     FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:  The foundation of taxpayer trust.  I will practice prudent financial decision making to address our ailing buildings, deal with personal safety on campus and enhance student education.     LISTEN AND LEARN:  I will emphasize open communication built on respect and integrity where the school district opens the doors.  We must share information with parents and community members, building pathways for community participation and helping everyone access school district services.     FOUNDATIONS FOR LEARNING:  Reading, writing and mathematics.  Beyond stressing basics every student in every school must have the opportunity and resources to reach their potential.  I support all students being ready for the 21st century.
