I seek reelection because I want to continue to be part of the team that leads our District into the future for the benefit of our students.  In the past 4 years, tremendous progress has been made in creating a "can do" environment that implements outstanding learning opportunities for our students and staff.  Our school board was recognized for its many achievements by being selected as "SCHOOL BOARD OF THE YEAR, 1997."

My objective, remains to maximize the potential of our students as they progress through our school system.  This process culminates as our seniors graduate and enter the next phase of their lives.  Have we given them the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in an ever-increasing competitive environment?  My goal will continue to set forth policy that energizes and guides our students to reach their individual maximum potential.

    Your vote is deeply appreciated.

As a parent, I feel the education received on Vashon is very good, however, I believe we can do even better.  Lack of educational excellence should never be the reason a parent avoids our public schools.  Vashon has many talented, and even award-winning teachers.  The school board must allocate the resources necessary for them to offer a superior curriculum.

The three issues I feel need immediate attention are:  1) Offer more honors and advanced placement classes at the high school as the logical follow-up to advanced classes at McMurray.  Currently, options are very limited.  2)  Responsible investment in new facilities.  The district's  $2 million capital improvements fund, available since 1994, has been earning only 5.6% interest, while construction costs have grown even faster.  Continuing to delay construction only wastes our limited resources.  3) Later start times for the secondary schools.  This change can, by itself, improve our students' ability to learn.
