Scott Floyd, 42, is a longtime resident of the Kent community. His wife is a Kent graduate and his two children attend Kent Junior High. Scott is a manager at The Boeing Company; his specialty is computers. He has been an active volunteer in the Kent School District for nine years as PTA president and as a member of the Kent Junior High Learning Improvement Team, Citizens Facilities Planning Committee and Key Communicators Committee. Scott has chaired the Citizens for Kent Schools Committee since 1994, spearheading successful levy and bond elections. Scott states "It is very important to me to be available and responsive to our diverse community. I enjoy listening to others and working on a good team. I will seek input from parents, teachers, students and the community to help find ways to focus on solid teaching which will improve learning and test scores for all students."

    I've been involved in the Kent Schools since coming here to teach in 1964. I've been a PTA member, parent, grandparent and school board member. I presently volunteer a day a week in my grandson's school and serve on its Learning Improvement Team.

    I'm a supporter and a critic of the public schools.

    I'm fully retired and have time to do the job. I will be a working board member -- not one who just comes twice a month to rubber stamp the actions of the bureaucracy.

    I have two primary concerns about today's schools. First is social promotion. No teacher should be expected to teach in the higher grades a child who hasn't learned the required skills in the lower.

Second is order in the classroom. A few disruptive kids must not be allowed to poison the learning environment for all the rest.
