    We are all concerned with the conditions in our schools. Many educators have forgotten to answer the basic question: What is the purpose of school? My view is that the purpose of school is to make students both smarter and better, to develop intellect and moral character. Parents demand two tasks from our schools: first, teach our children to speak, write, read, think and count correctly; and second, help them to develop standards that will guide them through life.

    Teachers need the authority to run and bring safety and order to their classrooms. To be effective, we need to continue to attack soft curriculum, a lack of accountability, and lack of parental involvement.

    I have four children in Kent Schools. I am a product of the Kent School District. I will continue to effectively lead our schools toward high standards and accountability in a safe environment.
