Democrat
My decision to run for the County Council
was founded on my desire to help area residents maintain the quality of life we
all cherish. With King County enjoying
great prosperity, we must strive to balance economic growth and natural resource
conservation.
Since 1991, we have made major gains in
striking this balance. As a
councilmember, I helped develop many of the policies protecting clean air,
healthy streams and rivers, rural areas, open space and parks now included in
our Growth Management Plan.
Now, King County continues to be a great
place to live, work and play, providing wonderful communities for children and
families. But prosperity brings many
challenges requiring strong leadership -- leadership I have brought to the
Council.
As chair of the Regional Water Quality
Committee, I have worked with elected leaders to protect water quality
standards, minimize urbanization impacts on Puget Sound, and preserve our
lakes, creeks and wetlands. As founder
and chair of the Cedar River Council, I am helping produce a local, accountable
plan for restoring our salmon runs while protecting our economy.
Working with citizens like you, I will help
manage growth, protect our local economy, and preserve the qualities of life we
most treasure.
