When I first ran for County Council in 1995,
I promised to fight for lower property taxes, a better transportation system
and increased police services.
I have kept those promises.
Before I was elected the County Council had
increased property taxes by the maximum amount allowed under state law for 20
straight years. Since 1997, every
County budget has contained a smaller property tax increase than the year
before.
As Transportation Committee Chairman, my
budgets have doubled roads construction spending and eliminated two-thirds of
the project backlog.
I've worked hard to improve Metro, too. We've increased bus service 15 percent and
refocused bus hours to our busiest routes.
The result: better service and growing ridership.
By steadily increasing the number of deputy
sheriffs on patrol, we have dramatically improved police response times to 9-1-1
calls for help.
I hope to serve you for four more years.
The voters are demanding additional tax
relief. We should never increase
property taxes by more than the rate of inflation.
We must focus our transportation investments
on fighting congestion and increasing mobility.
If you live in the Sixth District, I ask for
your vote this fall. Thank you.
