Traffic.  Roads.  Sewers.  Zoning.  Environment.  Salmon habitat.  Most of King County's problems are the growing pains of rapid development.  In the rush of growth, our infrastructure has fallen woefully behind.  Now, King County must pour its energies into catching up.  We must build the roads and schools and parks and libraries needed for the people who are here now.  I know first-hand about the pressures of rapid growth from my eight years on the Issaquah School Board.  During my tenure, the school district has obtained voter approval of two construction bonds, and I have focused on consensus-building in leading negotiations with the teachers' union on two contracts.  Meanwhile, I've also been a leader in the private sector as the president and CEO of a telephone/Internet company.  I will bring my real life experience with cost-effective operations to the County Council.  As a Rotary president and a community volunteer, I believe in contributing to the community to make it a better place to live for my family and my neighbors.  In the September 14 primary, you will have a choice -- vote for more of the same inefficiency, or vote for a new direction on the King County Council.

Your grassroots support has allowed me to be your independent voice for the people of King County.  We challenge the system and work hard to help citizens empower themselves.

Traffic Improvement:  Reducing existing congestion and making safety improvements have been my top priority.  I fast-tracked needed road improvements, and our District received 35% of the County's entire road budget over the last six years!    Growth Management:  Traffic congestion and crowded schools demand disciplined growth management.  Where services are lacking, development should be denied.    Environmental Protection:  Development pressures are ruining our unique northwest quality of life.  We must enforce existing environmental laws.  Farms, streams, lakes and forests must be preserved for our children!    Fiscal Conservatism:  I voted against many tax increases and successfully sponsored the first three-year plan to reduce property tax rates.  I support major property tax reform including a "homestead" exemption and a higher senior citizen exemption.  My "Government Accountability Initiative" is fundamentally reforming County Government to reduce costs and improve service.    Accessibility:  We do several community meetings each week, and make house calls!  Our home phone is (425) 837-9103.

Our partnership with you is working.  Together we are making a difference!  Thank you for your continued support.
